Q: 68 Mustang?
I am restoring a 68 mustang, Does anyone know where I might be able to find another one for parts?
A: Repro. parts for mustangs are very cheap. I would suggest buying new repro parts unless you are doing an original restoration.
Q: what problems should i look for if im interested in buying a 68 mustang?
i am looking at a 68 mustang but don’t know what are some problems that i should be looking for. (frame/body) thanks for any help
is a coupe.
A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carinsurance.yoll.net
Q: 68 mustang?
I just aquired a 1968 Mustang Conv. with a 289 V8 3spd floor shifter.
the motor is most likely seized(sat in garage for 20+yrs) and id like to put a 302 in it but thought it may be cheaper to rebuild the 289
Im looking to make it into a street cruiser with no more than 350hp and no less than 300hp and possibly a 5spd trans. all answers welcome.
“Do you really need all that HP to sit in traffic”
Honestly, who wants a Stang with all show and no go?
A: If you’re looking for jack rabbit quickness between stop lights, the three speed will serve your purpose better than a five speed. Provided the block isn’t damaged, you’d be better off rebuilding the original engine, than “upgrading”
a 302 is basically a 289 with different heads. and a 302 is the same as the 5.0 in 3rd generation Mustangs.
Q: What is the difference between 66, 67, and 68 mustang coupes??
I’m wanting to buy an old mustang but I would like to know if there are any real differences between the 66, 67,and 68 mustangs? I would also like to know what year you like best out of those three years. Thanks.
A: The 65,66 are the first series and 67,68 are the second. the 67 has a wider body to accommodate the optional 390 engine..it also had a complete body update with 3 separate tail lights that curved inward at the center..

Q: What is the best engine & tranny for 68 Mustang for a fast daily driver?
I have a 68 Mustang and I pulled the 6 cyl. and installed disc brakes and V8 springs. Now I need an engine and tranny (plus rear end) and am unsure of the best combination for horsepower, fuel economy, and maintenance?
A: boss 351 would be my first choice…with a top loader 4 speed
and a posi with about 3.90 gears….
Q: How much would it cost to repair and paint my 68 mustang?
Helllo, i have a 68 mustang with minor chips and scratchs on it and a lil rust by the rear wheel wells. how mnuch would be the estimate you would say to repair and paint? just an estimation…and one other quesiton my driver door only opens from the outside every ounce and a while . open from insied everytime.. and is tough to push door handle in to open and then it just pull out a lil bit or sometimes itll open !!
A: Maaco will do it for under $1000, but for a quality job be prepared to spend about $5000..
Q: 68 mustang?
my car wount start battery is charged
A: Get a Haynes Repair Manual at the local Auto Zone or auto parts store in your area. It will troubleshoot and show you how to fix your vehicle. Also on the Auto Zone site has a section for vehicle maintenance.
Check it out for you car at the site.
http://www.autozone.com/repair_info.htm
Also I would need more info. Like when you turn the key on do the lights turn on, does it click, or when you turn the key nothing happens but the battery is charged. A 1000 questions. But anyway, buy the book or go to the site.
Q: how much should a 68 mustang restoration cost?
i recently acquired a 68 mustang coupe and i want to redo the interior and have some body work done and paint it. after that i want to throw some new rims and tires on and have the engine gone through. if i did a lot of the work myself how much money would this cost ballpark?
A: It all depends on the level of quality you want and the amount of patience you have.
The interior items you can pick up on ebay or as specials if you subscribe to the various mustang catalogs. Rims you can pick up at auto swap meets, in LA we have a Pomona swap meet that yields great deals. This takes years of effort to get that special deal on all the things you’ll be wanting to buy and upgrade.
The engine, you should learn to do it yourself. You may get away with just a new set of rings and bearings. Send the heads in for a valve job. Do you own honing for the rings. A full rebuild with new internals and regrind will cost a couple of grand if you farm in out.
The paint is your personal choice. You can go with a Macco job that includes the body work for a grand or so to more than $10K+ for that stunning paint job.
You have those hidden jobs you didn’t think about. For instance, you may need to rebuild your front suspension and steering linkages. This will be $400+ just for parts. More for labor if you don’t do it yourself.
You can save if you network. Join your local Mustang club and get yourself educated on that value of parts and various rebuild jobs. Their technical support is invaluable.
Lastly, know where to buy parts. You may want to start by surfing through this web site:
http://links.vintage-mustang.com/
You may want to turn your car into a driving restoration — a little at a time over the years where you can budget $1,000 or so per year with a ballon payment every couple of years for that big job. Make it less painful. This gives you a chance to make use of those really good deals you trip upon like a console for $100 or a set of door panels and arm rests for $50…
So, you could be looking at $5,000 or $20,000. How good of a shopper and do-it-yourselfer are you?
Q: where can I find specs on a 68 mustang steering box?
I have the part # (tag) and want to know the ratio, turns and shaft size of this part off a 68 mustang
A: Check here http://www.vintagepony.com/content/view/15/1/
The tag may not be the original. It’s best to verify by counting the number of turns, even if it’s not in the car, you can still turn it by hand.
Q: is a mustang 68 a good car to be driving around?
i have a mustang 68 that might get restored..i dont know. its probly too expensive. but if it is is it ok to be driving it as my reliable car or is it too vintage? is it the kinda car i can drive to my high school with and park it or will people trash it because they’re jealous? and is it bad for the envirobment cuz it has old gas things? and is it still an amazing, cool, envy car to have? or is it for shows only and i shouldn’t have it as a reliable car for life?
A: Well, all old cars are gas guzzlers, but if you restore it and fix up the engine, it can good mpg. Mine is a 66 v8 I restored and it gets 25.
also, because it is from the 60’s, it doesn’t have the best safety features, such as air bags, So if you get hit, you will feel it. But as long as there are no big problems with the engine or tires, it should run fine.
I love mine, its the perfect muscle car.
But if you want an estimate my car was restored mostly (had working engine, intact, everything worked) it was $6000. Then I repaired the engine and worked on making the interior seating and making it nice, and the parts I needed for that came around about 700$. Then the new paint job was around $800 plus wax $500. The tires are pretty cheap though
Q: How much for a 68 Mustang?
I found a 68 mustang coup. I think its the original motor and transmission not sure how to verify that. Its a 6 cylinder with a manuel 3 speed. Body is in good shape with a couple of dents nothing to bad the hood is shot and there is no front bumper the underbody is in fair shape some rust but the floor pans are useable. i can get it for around $2000. I was wondering being its a 6 cylinder is it worth it? How can i find out if its all original?
A: if its an original 6 cyl it will have 4 bolt wheels and the 5th digit in the vin will be ‘T’ trans code1 on door tag for 3 spd manual now 2000 is a fair price but you need to check the bottom of the shock towers for rust also torque boxes rear frame rails, heater plenum cowl panel for rust out as these are the problem spots alsoif you test drive and it wants to wandering coming over hills you should pass as this would be an expensive fix
good luck

Q: I have a vintage 68 Mustang that a German person wants to buy?
I want to know what documents do I need to enter the car in Germany.
Danke!
A: Actually, I dont know if you are in the military, but it is illegal for an American service member to sell a car to a German citizen. Dont ask me why, but they are VERY strick about it.
If you arent military, all you need is the title, and the proof of insurance. make sure it is insured at ALL TIMES (even while it is being shipped). There are VERY heavy fines if you dont.
I dont know why a German would want to buy an American classic car. Does he/she know how much it would cost to bring that car up to the Geman specifications? More than its worth, if you ask me.
