I’d say it sounded like trance but I’m not sure.

EDIT – jumbobret is all wrong. The link he posted is NOT Major Tom, it is Space Oddity. Lincoln has used a remake of that song too in other commercials (the remake is by Cat Power), but the MKZ ad is Major Tom, originally recorded by Peter Schilling, redone by Shiny Toy Guns. It’s sort of a tribute or rip off (you decide) of Space Oddity, but it’s a different song. David Bowie never recorded a song called Major Tom

I dont not believe it to be Major Tom cover. rather that you found a post in relation to a 2009 MKS commercial that had a David bowie cover that contained the lyrics “Major Tom”.

It is the 2010 MKZ commercial called “Luxury at Lightspeed”. It opens in a new window and you can download the MP3 of the full song from the new window. I spent about ten minutes trying to find it on Limewire and all they had was garbage, so when I figured out that the ‘Download’ button on the commercial’s window was for the whole song, and not just the video+song clip, I was thrilled.

The song is by a band I’ve never heard of called “Shiny Toy Guns”, but it’s a pretty sweet cover of “Major Tom (Coming Home)”, originally by Peter Schilling. I already have the original version, but I thought the cover was pretty nice. The singer and her backup have really good voices, IMO. Oh, and commercial is pretty sweet.
